I completed my PhD in Architecture at the University of Sheffield under the supervision of Professor Peter Blundell Jones. I subsequently worked as a Research Associate at the University of Sheffield from 2007, before moving to the University of Manchester in 2011. I became a Lecturer in Architectural Studies in 2015 and was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2021, becoming the Head of Architecture in 2022. My primary research interest is in the engagement of architectural researchers with major issues facing society, particularly the health and well-being of occupants. My research has explored the production and consumption of architecture, focusing on the experiences of building users, with a particular emphasis on the implications of an aging population on housing design. I aim to enhance older occupants' health, well-being, and independence. I have also investigated the role of building design in minimizing the spread of infection in healthcare settings and studied how architects construct representations of building users, while examining the ways in which building standards shape the built environment, especially in terms of daylighting and intuition within architects' working practices.
