Biography

Dr. Alan Marco is a tenured Associate Professor at the Jimmy Rosalynn Carter School of Public Policy at Georgia Tech. He is an expert in the fields of innovation patent policy, science and technology policy, industrial organization, game theory, law and economics, intellectual property strategy management, and big data analytics. Prior to joining Georgia Tech, Dr. Marco held significant positions, including Chief Economist at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) where he concentrated on policy-relevant topics related to intellectual property. His academic career includes roles as an Associate Professor at the Williams School of Commerce at Washington and Lee University and at Vassar College. Dr. Marco co-created USPTO’s PatentsView.org, a platform aimed at providing access to high-quality patent data, and played a role in the Cancer Moonshot Patent Challenge as part of the White House Cancer Moonshot Task Force. His publication record includes studies on market dynamics of intellectual property, valuation of patents, and the implications of high-tech mergers. Dr. Marco received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of California-Berkeley and his B.A. in mathematics and economics from Skidmore College.
