Dr. Alan Myers

Biography

Dr. Alan L. Myers is a Professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center, School of Dentistry at Houston, in the Department of Diagnostic and Biomedical Sciences. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia in 1999 and a Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) from West Virginia University in 2005. Prior to his current position, Dr. Myers practiced as a Clinical Pharmacy Research Specialist at the University of Texas, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and served as an Assistant Professor in Pharmaceutical Sciences at Drake University. His research interests include pharmacologically-oriented education and clinical pharmacological sciences, with a focus on pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, pharmacogenetics, and biopharmaceutics. Dr. Myers also engages in collaborative research projects involving clinical trials at M.D. Anderson, particularly studying the pharmacokinetics of drugs like varenicline, which aids in smoking cessation. Furthermore, he explores the pharmacokinetics of busulfan in stem cell transplantation. Dr. Myers champions personalized medicine interventions through implementation of pharmacogenetics in patient care and actively contributes to developing clinical guidelines for precision dosing of medications. He teaches a variety of pharmacology courses and is involved in educational research pertaining to the academic performance of dental students based on their sleep and coursework engagement.
