Dr. Alan Rubel

Biography

Alan Rubel is a Professor at the Information School at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He holds a J.D. from the University of Wisconsin Law School, earned in 2003, and a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, completed in 2006. His research primarily focuses on information ethics, policy, and law. Rubel teaches several courses, including LIS 461: Data Algorithms: Ethics Policy, Legal Studies 450: Jurisprudence Contemporary Issues, LIS 661: Information Ethics Policy, and LIS 340: Introduction to Internet, Computer, Cyberlaw. He has co-authored numerous publications, including works in noted journals and with leading academic publishers on topics such as algorithms, autonomy, and ethical decision-making in automated systems. His recent publications address issues of data-enabled surveillance and the ethical implications of algorithms in decision-making processes. Rubel's contributions to the field of information ethics are significant, especially concerning the intersection of law and technology.
