Biography

Alan Wagner is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Computer Science at the University of British Columbia. He has a B.Sc. (Honors) from Dalhousie University (1977), an M.Sc. from the University of Alberta (1983), and a Ph.D. from the University of Toronto (1987). Since joining UBC, he has served as Assistant Professor from 1987 to 1997 and as Associate Professor starting in 1997. His research interests include parallel computing, particularly in how effective software can leverage hardware performance and aid programmers in designing and maintaining parallel applications. Wagner focuses on systems that utilize message-passing libraries such as MPI and PVM to optimize performance. His contributions to academia extend beyond research, as he also teaches a variety of courses related to computer networking and parallel algorithms.
