Dr. Alana Lund

Biography

Alana Lund is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Waterloo. She has extensive research experience in the mechanics and dynamics of civil structures, focusing on vibration-based techniques for structural identification. Her research program aims to develop robust approaches for structural health monitoring and to achieve a holistic, regional assessment of structural conditions. Dr. Lund's work challenges conventional methods by leveraging Bayesian techniques for uncertainty quantification in structural identification and adapting information fusion approaches for regional assessments. Her innovative strategies include generating algorithms that facilitate comprehensive assessments of structural conditions, compatible with uncertainties present in the built environment. In addition to her research, she promotes the development of open-source tools and training materials to enhance the application of uncertainty quantification and system identification in structural engineering. Dr. Lund has been recognized as a Rising Star in Computational Data Science by the Philanthropic Education Organization in 2020 and has received accolades for her contributions to the field of engineering education.
