Alanna Kraaijeveld is a contemporary dancer who has worked in the field for twenty years as a performer, teacher, creator, and artistic supporter. Notable experiences include dancing with Le Groupe Dance Lab in Ottawa under Peter Boneham (2004–2009), performing and touring with choreographer Dave St-Pierre (2012–2018), and studying with Linda Kapetanea and Jozef Frucek in Athens, who are creators of the Fighting Monkey practice (2015–present). Each encounter has precipitated a paradigm shift in her understanding of dance and her role within it, while revealing and expanding her capacity as an artist and individual. With long-time collaborator saxophonist Yves Charuest, she continues to improvise in living arts and music venues. Kraaijeveld teaches nationally in professional dance training institutions and has led dialogical practice initiatives that joyfully bring together various practitioners, materials, and disciplines. These initiatives channel her artistic research and connect her with artists of different ages, experiences, and creativity.
