Biography

I am Alasdair B R Stewart, a sociologist based in the School of Social and Political Sciences at the University of Glasgow. I am currently a Research Fellow and Data Lead at the GCRF Centre for Sustainable, Health and Learning Cities and Neighbourhoods (SHLC). I serve as a Co-Investigator on a Health Foundation funded qualitative project examining policy discourse and the lived experiences of people with mental health problems in relation to welfare conditionality. My research interests encompass large-scale social processes, state-crafting, and social policy, focusing on how these shape lived experiences of inequality. My work specifically explores areas such as homelessness and dwelling, social suffering, and precarity in social security. I employ a post-philosophical theoretical-empirical approach, which involves engaging in empirical investigation while considering the theoretical and ethical implications. Additionally, I am the Lead Developer of PythiaQDA, an open-source qualitative data analysis software aimed at empowering qualitative researchers with control over their analysis methods without the hindrance of proprietary software.
