Dr. Alban Bouquet

Biography

Alban Etienne René Bouquet is a quantitative geneticist with a background in animal science. His research specializes in developing sustainable animal breeding strategies that utilize genetic variation. He is particularly focused on breeding programs designed to improve livestock populations under specific production conditions. This multi-faceted endeavor requires the integration of genetic breeding principles along with biological and economic constraints. His work includes developing methods and tools to predict genetic trends and assess the overall animal fitness. A critical aspect of his research is managing genetic diversity within breeding populations to mitigate risks of unsustainable depletion. Alban obtained his PhD degree from AgroParisTech/INRA in France in 2009 and has since held postdoctoral positions at the University of Helsinki and QGG, Aarhus University. Prior to joining QGG in 2021, he worked for 8 years as an engineer and consultant at the IFIP - Pig Research Institute in France, contributing to the implementation of genomic selection in practical breeding decision tools for main French pig breeding schemes. He teaches courses on animal breeding schemes at Aarhus University and Copenhagen University, with a pragmatic teaching approach that emphasizes hands-on exercises to develop students' problem-solving skills.
