Dr. Albert Laguna

Biography

Albert Laguna is an Associate Professor in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Yale University, specializing in American Studies. His research and teaching interests encompass transnational Latino/a literatures and cultures, humor theory, performance studies, and the Cuban diaspora. His work has been published in notable journals such as Latino Studies, Journal of Latin American Cultural Studies, and Diario de Cuba, as well as mainstream platforms like the Huffington Post, Miami Herald, and Washington Post, and CNN.com. Notably, his article 'Aquí Está Alvarez Guedes: Cuban Choteo Politics Play' received the 2012 Article Award from the Latina/o Studies Section of the Latin American Studies Association. Another article, focused on Cuban Miami, earned Honorable Mention at the Jack Rosenbalm Prize from the American Humor Studies Association. In July 2017, Laguna published his book, Diversión: Play and Popular Culture in Cuban America, through New York University Press.
