Dr. Albert Postma

Biography

Albert Postma is a full professor of Experimental Psychology with a specialization in Clinical Neuropsychology at Utrecht University. He completed his PhD at Nijmegen University in 1991, focusing on the linguistic repair processes in stutterers. Postma's research interests encompass spatial cognition, human memory in both healthy and brain-damaged individuals, and the neurocognitive basis of spatial orientation. He has led various significant projects, including the EU NEST Fp6 program on the neurocognitive basis of spatial memory, where he serves as a coordinator. Postma's work has also inspired numerous publications in top-tier journals and books, such as the edited volume 'Neuropsychology of Space,' which reviews spatial functions in the human brain. He has held multiple prominent positions within the university and has contributed extensively to the academic community through editorial work and leadership roles. Additionally, Postma leads the Memory & Space lab, conducting neuroimaging studies that explore the interplay between spatial language and memory disorders, including episodic prospective memory related to stroke. His expertise and ongoing research continue to shape the understanding of how individuals navigate and perceive space.
