Dr. Albert Weale

Biography

Albert Weale is an Emeritus Professor of Political Theory and Public Policy at University College London, specifically in the Department of Political Science and the School of Public Policy. Throughout his career, he has been dedicated to studying the role of ideas in the policy process and examining the arguments relevant to policy choices. His research focuses on public policy, particularly in health and environmental policy, where he has developed a significant specialism. Weale has extensively written on democratic theory and social contract theory, showcasing his expertise in these areas. He completed his PhD at the University of Cambridge, where his thesis explored the idea of equality in social policy. Before joining University College London in 2010, he held various academic positions, including Professor of Government at the University of Essex and Professor of Politics at the University of East Anglia. He has also served as an editor for the British Journal of Political Science for seventeen years and is a former Vice-President of the British Academy, with particular responsibility for public policy. He was awarded a CBE in 2013 for his services to Political Science and continues to publish research since his retirement.
