Biography

Alberto Acquilino is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Don Wright Faculty of Music, Western University, where he works under the supervision of Adam Bell. His career reflects an uncommon blend of artistry and science, uniting his training as a musician with expertise in engineering technology. He earned his degree in music performance from the Paganini Conservatory of Music in Italy, establishing himself as a performer, conductor, and music educator. Simultaneously, he pursued his interest in engineering, completing master’s degrees in mechanical engineering in Italy and France, while conducting research at ETH Zurich, Switzerland. Acquilino later earned a PhD in Music Technology from McGill University, where his research focused on digital technologies to enrich instrumental pedagogy. This led to the creation of open-source frameworks for real-time feedback in adaptive learning within music education. His current postdoctoral research examines generative AI and disability-led design to support the acquisition of sensorimotor skills in musicians, with an emphasis on inclusion in music classrooms. In addition to his research activities, Acquilino is an active teacher and mentor.
