Biography

Alberto Bacchelli is an Associate Professor at the University of Zurich, leading the ZEST group. He received the MSR Ric Holt Early Career Achievement Award in 2020 for his contributions to modern code review and was recognized with a 10-year Influential Paper award at SANER for his work on extending integrated development environments with AI-based recommendation tools. Bacchelli has received multiple awards at top academic venues in software engineering and computer-supported collaborative work. Before joining the University of Zurich, he worked for four years as an assistant professor at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, where he earned tenure. Bacchelli obtained his Ph.D. in 2013 under the supervision of Prof. Michele Lanza at the University of Lugano, contributing to the REVEAL research group. He interned twice at Microsoft Research in Redmond, USA, under Dr. Christian Bird. He holds both bachelor's and master's degrees in computer science from the University of Bologna, with a year spent studying at Université Libre De Bruxelles. During his master's program, he worked in the industry for a year at Cineca, Italy's largest computing center.
