Biography

Alberto E Brugarolas Salvo is an Associate Professor of Economics at the National University of Singapore. His research focuses on how behavioral incentives affect economic agents, households, workers, and firms when interacting with scarce environmental resources such as climate, urban air, water, and land use. He is currently involved in projects that explore households' awareness of the climate crisis and personal emissions accountability. Salvo is testing non-judgmental private disclosure of emissions among individuals, investigating the roles of consumers and workers in shaping environmental preferences to widen citizen support for climate investments. He emphasizes the gap in public understanding and engagement regarding actions necessary to solve the climate crisis while advocating for behavioral changes that could facilitate the implementation of technological solutions. His interests also include education campaigns in consumption domains such as protein food, private car travel, public transport, air travel, residential utilities, and land use & forestry change. A behavioral social scientist and environmental economist, he collaborates across disciplines including atmospheric sciences, food science & technology, environmental health, consumer psychology, and transport engineering. Salvo has worked extensively on issues concerning Asia's critical environmental challenges and is actively involved in public advocacy for environmental sustainability.
