Biography

Dr. J Alberto Neder is a respirologist and physician scientist with a broad interest in clinical respiratory physiology. He focuses on elucidating the mechanisms driving the key complaints of patients suffering from chronic cardiopulmonary diseases, such as breathlessness and exercise intolerance. His research aims to develop and test novel diagnostic approaches and interventions, both pharmacological and non-pharmacological, to improve patients' quality of life. Dr. Neder has authored over 300 peer-reviewed publications and several books and book chapters on respiratory exercise physiology and pulmonary rehabilitation. He was ranked among the top 0.1% of productive researchers in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) worldwide in 2023. Throughout his career, he has been an invited speaker at more than 200 national and international conferences. Dr. Neder completed his doctoral thesis in Medicine at the Federal University of Sao Paulo in Brazil and has held academic positions at various prestigious institutions. His extensive experience includes training research personnel at undergraduate and post-doctoral levels. In addition to his research activities, he serves as Medical Director of the Pulmonary Function Tests Laboratory at Hotel Dieu Hospital and Director of the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program at Providence Care Hospital.
