Biography

Alberto Robador Ausejo is an Adjunct Assistant Professor (Research) in the Department of Biological Sciences at USC Dornsife. He received his Ph.D. in Marine Biogeochemistry from the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology in 2009. His research focuses on the relationships between ecological energy flow and the structure and activity of natural microbial communities, with a special emphasis on their genetic repertoire and expression related to biogeochemical activity. Utilizing a nanocalorimetry approach, he investigates how metabolic heat can convey information regarding the kinetics and thermodynamics of microbially catalyzed biogeochemical reactions, particularly in energy-limited marine subsurface habitats. His current efforts aim to leverage findings from well-characterized model organisms to deepen the understanding of the physiochemical nature of energy transformation and dissipation associated with microbial metabolic activity in conditions resembling those found in natural systems.
