Professor Alberto Saiani graduated from the University Louis Pasteur in Strasbourg, France, obtaining an MSc in Soft Condensed Matter Physics followed by a PhD in Polymer Physics. He held postdoctoral positions at Osaka University in Japan, where he was awarded a Japanese Society Promotion Science fellowship, and later at Imperial College London and Huntsman Polyurethanes in Belgium. In 2000, he was appointed as a lecturer at the University Blaise Pascal in Clermont-Ferrand, France, before joining the University of Manchester's Department of Materials in 2002. At Manchester, he co-established the Polymers & Peptides Research Group and is currently based at the Manchester Institute of Biotechnology. His research focuses on the development of self-assembled peptide-based biomaterials for a wide range of biomedical applications, including drug delivery and tissue engineering. Saiani has received several prestigious awards including a 5-year research fellowship from the UK Engineering Physical Science Research Council. Additionally, he was elected a fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry in 2016 and has contributed significantly to advancing gel-based technologies through his start-up, Manchester BIOGEL. Over two decades, he has been dedicated to translational projects aiming to bridge biomaterial technologies from laboratory research to clinical applications.
