Biography

Alec Wright is a Chancellor’s Fellow in Audio Machine Learning at the University of Edinburgh. He researches the applications of machine learning in musical audio signal processing and synthesis. Alec completed his MSc in Acoustics and Music Technology in 2018 at the University of Edinburgh, UK, and obtained his DSc in 2023 from Aalto University, Finland, through the Aalto Acoustics Laboratory. His doctoral work focused on modeling audio effects processing using neural networks, with a special interest in creating highly realistic real-time emulations of guitar amplifiers based on data. His research interests include machine learning, virtual analog modeling, and neural networks. He currently supervises PhD students George Dangas, Victor Zheleznov, and Sean Turland.
