Biography

Aleida Braaksma received her M.Sc. degree in Applied Mathematics from the University of Twente (UT) in 2010. Her master's thesis project was recognized with multiple awards, marking the start of her career in healthcare operations research. In 2015, she earned her Ph.D. with a dissertation titled ‘Timely Efficient Planning Treatments Intelligent Scheduling’. Her doctoral research was conducted at the CHOIR (Center for Healthcare Operations Improvement Research) within the Academic Medical Center (AMC) in Amsterdam. Following her doctoral studies, Aleida worked as a postdoctoral fellow in healthcare operations research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) in Boston, United States. She is currently an assistant professor in the Stochastic Operations Research group at UT CHOIR. Her research interests focus on planning and scheduling in healthcare, particularly decision-making under uncertainty, and her expertise includes Nursing, Health Professions, and capacity planning for outpatient departments in university hospitals.
