Biography

Alejandro Ribeiro is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Systems Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania. He was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Universidad de la Republica in 1998. Professor Ribeiro worked for five years in Bellsouth's cellular operation in Uruguay before moving to Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 2003 to study at the University of Minnesota, where he earned his Master of Science and Ph.D. degrees in 2005 and 2007, respectively. He joined the University of Pennsylvania in 2008 and has received several honors, including the S. Reid Warren, Jr. Award for outstanding teaching and the NSF CAREER Award in 2010. His research interests lie in signal processing applications related to the study of networks, focusing on optimal design for wireless networks, distributed signal processing optimization, and graph signal processing. He has mentored numerous Ph.D. students and actively collaborates on projects involving optimization, machine learning, and big data.
