Aleksandar Kuzmanovic is a professor in the Department of Computer Science at Northwestern University, where he leads the Northwestern Networks Group. His research interests lie in computer networking, with a focus on design, measurements, analysis, denial-of-service resiliency, and the prototype implementation of protocols and algorithms for the Internet. He is well-known for his pioneering work on low-rate denial-of-service attacks and TCP congestion control, having published over 60 research papers in prestigious networking journals and conferences such as IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking, ACM SIGCOMM, and USENIX NSDI. Additionally, his work has led to widely distributed systems tools across the Internet, including the TCP-LP protocol, which has been incorporated into the Linux operating system. His contributions to Explicit Congestion Notification have become an Internet standard, and his research on denial-of-service resiliency has been adopted by Akamai, the world’s largest content distribution network. Kuzmanovic joined the Northwestern faculty in 2005 after receiving his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Rice University. He has received numerous awards, including the Microsoft Trustworthy Computing Award and the National Science Foundation CAREER Award.
