Dr. Aleksandra Vojčić

Biography

Aleksandra Vojčić is a pianist scholar who joined the University of Michigan in 2008 after teaching at The Juilliard School since 1996. Her research interests encompass rhythmic form, asymmetrical meters, post-tonal music, and the Ars subtilior, as well as contemporary genres like rap. Her scholarly work includes studies on notable composers such as Harrison Birtwistle, Colin Matthews, Alexander Scriabin, and Milica Paranosić, with an emphasis on asymmetrical meters and medievalism. Vojčić has presented her research through lectures and papers in various countries, including the UK, Lithuania, Austria, Serbia, and the United States. Currently, she is working on a monograph that focuses on rhythmic structures and processes. Vojčić's published work appears through respected publishers such as Oxford University Press and Cambridge University Press, and her contributions to musicology are recognized in journals like Perspectives of New Music and Current Musicology. As a performer, she has appeared as a soloist with prestigious orchestras such as the Belgrade Philharmonic and the National Repertory Orchestra, and has graced renowned venues including Steinway Hall and Alice Tully Hall. Vojčić also released her original music album, Heavenly Lullabies, with trio D’Divaz, and participated in the award-winning Swiss documentary Yugodivas, which has been broadcast on various channels.
