Aleksandra Vuckovic holds an MEng in Engineering Physics and an MSc in Control Systems from the University of Belgrade. She completed her Ph.D. at the Centre for Sensory-Motor Interaction, Aalborg University, Denmark in 2004 and has since served in various academic and research roles. She has held positions as a Senior Research Officer in the Brain-Computer Interface Group at the University of Essex from 2005 to 2007 and has been a member of the James Watt School of Engineering at the University of Glasgow since 2008. Vuckovic became a member of the Higher Education Academy in 2009, a Chartered Engineer in 2016, and a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers in 2021. She has also served as Co-Director of the Scottish Centre for Innovation in Spinal Cord Injury and has actively contributed to the International Brain-Computer Interface Society and the International Functional Electrical Stimulation Society. Her research primarily focuses on Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCI) and their applications in neurorehabilitation, particularly for patients with impairments of the Central Nervous System. She is interested in developing patient-managed BCI systems for home-based rehabilitation and improving existing therapies via BCI and Functional Electrical Stimulation. Additionally, her work applies machine learning to develop individualized pain management strategies.
