Biography

Alena Drieschova works on the role of material culture and technology in international relations, notably how everyday material encounters shape international orders. Her interests include the role of communication technologies in international politics, questions of nationalism, ethnic conflict, and processes of nation-state formation. Alena's past research has focused on international cooperation and transboundary water management, employing qualitative methods, particularly ethnography. Her regional focus centers on Europe and South Asia. She is a Senior Lecturer in International Relations at Cardiff University and is currently a research fellow at the University of Duisburg-Essen. Alena has been a visiting scholar at the International Water Management Institute in Sri Lanka, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and Oregon State University. Her work has been published in significant journals including Climatic Change, Global Environmental Change, and International Organization. Alena is also a deputy editor for New Perspectives: Journal of Central and Eastern European Politics and International Relations, and she is a member of its governing board. She is interested in supervising PhD students in areas related to technology and international relations, material culture in international relations, changes in international orders, post-truth politics, and EU politics in Central European contexts.
