Biography

Alena Robin is an Associate Professor and Department Chair at Western University in the Department of Visual Arts. She has a rich academic background, having earned her PhD from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México in 2007 and serves as a postdoctoral fellow at Université de Montréal. Her research extensively explores religious art in New Spain (Colonial Mexico), focusing on artistic representation and the circulation of knowledge related to European prints that influenced Colonial painters. Alena's significant academic contributions include her book addressing the devotion and patronage of the Way of the Cross in New Spain, particularly concerning chapels built in Mexico City during the late seventeenth century. She is also engaged in a current book project that revitalizes the work of the overlooked artist Antonio Enríquez from the Mexican Colonial school of painting. Additionally, Alena's research examines the presence of Latin American art in Canadian institutions and encompasses the broader context of immigration and cultural exchange between Latin America and Canada. Her scholarly activities encompass co-editing collections on Latin American art and producing various articles and chapters that interlink the fields of art history, religion, and cultural studies.
