Alessandra Capperdoni was born in Italy and studied Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures, focusing on English, German, French, and Italian studies. She came to Simon Fraser University (SFU) in 1999 under a Government of Canada Award for Foreign Nationals to work on a research project related to North American 'open poetics.' She completed her PhD in English, focusing on experimental writing in Canada, particularly the long poem genre and the politics of form in relation to space, nation, and global capital. Capperdoni has taught a wide range of courses at SFU, in both the Departments of English and Women’s Studies, and served as the Ruth Wynn Woodward Lecturer from 2009 to 2010 before joining the Department of Global Humanities. She is currently working on a manuscript regarding post-1960s Canadian poetics in the context of social imaginaries that emerged at the intersection of nationalism and globalization, as well as a project on culture and violence, which is in its early stages. She actively fosters a research cluster on Memory and Trauma involving colleagues Eirini Kotsovili and James Horncastle.
