Biography

Alessandra Motz is a researcher at the Institute of Economic Research (IRE), serving as a Project Manager within the energy branch of the Observatory of Public Finance Energy (O-FPE). Her research interests focus on demand-side analyses of energy consumption and the transition to a low-carbon economy in Switzerland, particularly in the context of the evolution of the European energy market. Alessandra earned her Ph.D. in economics from the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI) in 2021, with a thesis that involved stated preference studies on the sustainability, reliability, and affordability of electricity supply among Swiss consumers. She completed multiple advanced economics courses, including sequences in Microeconomics and Econometrics at the Study Center Gerzensee in 2015. Furthermore, she holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Pisa (2005), a Master’s degree in Economics and Management of Public Administrations and International Institutions from Bocconi University in Milan (2008), and a Diploma in Master Economics from the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa (2007-2009). Prior to joining IRE, Alessandra worked for six years as a researcher and consultant at REF-E in Milan, where she provided specialized services to companies and institutions dealing with energy markets, focusing on the dynamics of regulation in wholesale gas markets across Italy and Europe. Her areas of expertise include consumer behavior, discrete choice modeling, energy economics, energy regulation, and sustainability.
