Biography

Alessandra Russo is a Professor of Applied Computational Logic in the Department of Computing at Imperial College London, where she leads the Structured Probabilistic Knowledge Engineering (SPIKE) research group, founded in 2010. She currently serves as the Head of the Department of Computing and is the Co-Director of the School of Convergence Science in Human and Artificial Intelligence and the UKRI CDT Safe Trusted AI initiative. Professor Russo's research focuses on the development of general-purpose symbolic machine learning systems and neuro-symbolic AI methods and tools that are robust, interpretable, and explainable to humans. She has significantly contributed to the fields of Intelligent Adaptive Systems, Security, Network Management, Distributed Control Systems, Sensor Networks, System Biology, and Healthcare. Her broad research interests encompass Artificial Intelligence, Symbolic Machine Learning, Neurosymbolic AI, Computational Logic, Planning, and Probabilistic Distributed Inference. Professor Russo has published over 200 articles in leading conferences and high-impact journals and has served as the principal investigator or co-investigator on 25 research projects, securing a total of £15 million in funding from sources such as EPSRC and EU Industry.
