Alessandro Iandolo is a historian specializing in Soviet/Post-Soviet history. His research focuses on the economic, intellectual, and political interactions of the USSR with external states and entities, particularly during the Cold War. He investigates the Soviet engagement with Africa, Asia, and Latin America, and his book, "Arrested Development: The Soviet Union in Ghana, Guinea, and Mali, 1955-1968," reflects his interests in Soviet economic partnerships with newly-independent West African nations during the Nikita Khrushchev era. This work earned him the W. Bruce Lincoln Prize for monographs in Russian history and the Marshall D. Shulman Prize for monographs in international relations. Iandolo is currently investigating the construction of hierarchies within multiple Soviet 'colonies' across Africa, Asia, and Latin America from 1955 to 1991. He joined University College London’s School of Slavonic and East European Studies in September 2022, following a postdoctoral fellowship at leading institutions such as Harvard, Columbia, and the London School of Economics. His research has been supported by grants from various prestigious organizations, including the Leverhulme Trust, European Research Council, and Fulbright Commission.
