Alessia Calafiore is a Lecturer in Urban Data Science and Sustainability at Edinburgh College of Art. She holds a PhD in Computer Science (Geoinformatics) obtained jointly from the University of Torino and the University of Luxembourg in 2018. Prior to her current role, she served as a Post-doctoral Research Associate at the University of Liverpool, where she worked at the Geographic Data Science Lab from 2019 to 2022. She currently co-leads the Future Cities theme within CHASS and acts as the treasurer for the Quantitative Research Methods Group of the Royal Geographical Society. Her teaching includes courses at the Edinburgh Futures Institute while her research interests encompass urban mobility, geographic data science, and the built environment. She is particularly focused on developing new spatially informed computational methods to understand the interplay between human behaviors and urban contexts. Calafiore is currently supervising PhD students on topics related to urban regional dynamics and innovative forms of data.
