Biography

Dr. Alessia Zinnari completed her PhD in Comparative Literature at the University of Glasgow and currently works as a Lecturer in Italian. Her research primarily focuses on mental illness in women’s writing and the relationship between creativity, healing, and self-determination. Her thesis, entitled 'Mental Illness, Women’s Writing and Liminality: A Comparative Study of Leonora Carrington and Alda Merini', is grounded in feminist theory and examines the works produced by authors during their experiences of hospitalization in psychiatric institutions. Her research is interdisciplinary, sitting at the intersection of comparative literature, contemporary women’s writing, feminist theory, medical humanities, and trauma studies. She is particularly interested in exploring mental illness and the construction of self in autobiographical writing and art created by women. In addition, she has experience in teaching and has been actively involved in various academic projects related to her research interests.
