Biography

Alessio Serafini completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Pisa, Italy, obtaining a Laurea (MSci) in Physics in 2001. His graduation project focused on the foundations of General Relativity, which he carried out at the Politecnico di Torino. He pursued a PhD in Theoretical Physics, specializing in quantum optics and quantum information, at the University of Salerno under the supervision of Fabrizio Illuminati and Silvio De Siena, completing his studies in 2004. During his PhD, he spent time at the Potsdam Institute for Physics, working with Jens Eisert, and at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris with Yvan Castin. Following his doctoral studies, Serafini worked as a Research Assistant in the AMOPP group at University College London (UCL), focusing on Quantum Information with Sougato Bose. He then joined the Quantum Information Group at Imperial College London as a Marie Curie Fellow from November 2005 to September 2007. In October 2007, he returned to UCL as a lecturer and has since re-joined the Quantum Information Group. He was appointed Reader at UCL's Department of Physics & Astronomy in October 2013 and has been working in that capacity until the present.
