Biography

Alethea Tabor's research focuses on Chemical Biology, particularly the synthesis, structural modeling, and action of complex cyclic antimicrobial peptides and the development of theragnostic nanoparticles for cancer treatment and imaging. She earned her PhD from the University of Cambridge, working on the asymmetric synthesis of chiral propargyl amines as potential antiepileptic drugs under the supervision of Professor Andrew Holmes. After completing a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard University with Professor Stuart Schreiber, where she researched the modes of action of calicheamicin and FK506, she began her independent career at the University of Edinburgh in 1991. In 1994, she took up a lectureship at University College London (UCL) and was promoted to Professor in 2012. Alongside her research and teaching, Alethea has held several leadership roles at UCL and the Royal Society of Chemistry, including chairing the RSC Protein Peptide Science Group from 2018 to 2023 and serving as Co-Director of the Wellcome Trust 4-year Interdisciplinary PhD Programme in Structural and Computational Chemical Biology.
