Biography

Alex Abramovich is an Assistant Professor and Independent Scientist at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) and the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto. With a PhD from the University of Toronto's Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, he completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship focused on community-based research. Over 15 years, Abramovich has become an internationally recognized leader in addressing homelessness among 2SLGBTQ+ youth. His research aims to investigate social inequities impacting 2SLGBTQ+ individuals, specifically targeting health service needs for these marginalized groups. His groundbreaking work has contributed to significant policy reforms, including the initiation of Canada's transitional housing program for 2SLGBTQ+ youth. In addition to his research, he's a member of the Government of Canada's National Advisory Council on Poverty, providing advice aimed at poverty reduction strategies.
