Biography

Alex Bossers is an Assistant Professor at Utrecht University, specializing in molecular cell biology and (meta)genomics applications within the health and environmental genomics research domain. He has been involved in multidisciplinary projects that utilize metagenomics to analyze the interactions between humans and animals, particularly in health-related contexts. Since joining the Health Microbial Agents group at the Institute of Risk Assessment Sciences (IRAS) in March 2021, he has maintained a part-time role at Wageningen BioVeterinary Research, leading efforts in multi-omics data analytics. With a PhD completed in 1999, he has extensive experience in the molecular aspects of prion diseases and has shifted his research focus towards molecular epidemiology, employing (meta)genomics to better understand the microbiomes and their relevance to disease pathogenesis. He has coordinated several European public-private partnership projects and is a board member of the Dutch KNVM division of microbial genomics. Currently, Alex has over 200 peer-reviewed publications and continues to push the boundaries of research in his field.
