Biography

Alex De Foe is a Lecturer at Monash University in the School of Educational Psychology and Counselling. He completed his PhD at Monash University in 2016, focusing on principles of embodied cognition and human perception. Following his PhD, he undertook an industry fellowship at RMIT University, where he co-established the Virtual Reality (VR) mental health laboratory within the Psychology discipline. His research centers on the intersection of altered states of consciousness and developmental contexts, promoting a critical mindset towards mental health and well-being. Dr. De Foe has published over 30 scientific papers and his work has been cited over 700 times. He is also an Associate Editor for the Journal of Psychedelic Studies and has received several grants related to consciousness research. His teaching commitment primarily involves the Master of Counselling program, where he co-developed specialist units integrating modern artificial intelligence applications into mental health practice. In addition, he serves as a Board Director for the Australian Centre for Consciousness Studies (ACCS) and supports various partner organizations in advancing the understanding of altered states and mental health.
