Alex High is an Associate Professor at the University of Chicago in the Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering. His research focuses on quantum optical science, particularly exploring new physics and technologies that emerge from quantum systems at the engineered nanoscale level. His lab investigates innovative methods to craft interactions between photons and solid-state systems, fundamentally modifying materials by breaking time-reversal symmetry and inducing long-range coherence. This pioneering work aims to create deterministic, coherent interactions between single photons and quantum states, developing optical quantum circuits for new technologies based on engineered light/matter interactions. High received his Bachelor of Arts in physics from the University of Pennsylvania and his PhD in physics from the University of California, San Diego. His lab also engages in several groundbreaking studies related to microwave-based quantum control and coherence protection in spin qubits, as well as integration methods for quantum technologies using diamond membranes.
