Alex Q. Huang is a Professor and the Dula D. Cockrell Centennial Chair in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. He received his Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Zhejiang University in China in 1983, his Master's degree from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China in 1986, and his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Cambridge in the UK in 1992. Prior to joining UT Austin, he was a faculty member at Virginia Tech from 1994 to 2004 and NC State University from 2004 to 2017. At NC State, he established recognized public-private partnerships including the NSF FREEDM Engineering Research Center and DOE PowerAmerica Institute. Huang is a world-renowned expert in power semiconductor devices and power electronics, with over 550 published papers and more than 20 patents, including significant contributions to Emitter Turn-Off Thyristor technology. He has received multiple accolades, including the 2019 IEEE IAS Gerald Kliman Innovator Award and recognition as a fellow of the IEEE and the National Academy of Inventors. Huang remains actively engaged in research and welcomes inquiries from prospective students and postdoctoral researchers.
