Biography

Alex Krieger, FAIA, has combined a career in teaching and practice, dedicating himself to improving the quality of life in major urban areas. He has been a Professor of Practice in Urban Design at Harvard University Graduate School of Design (GSD) since 1977, where he has also served in various leadership roles, including Chair of the Department of Urban Planning and Design and Director of the Urban Design Program. As a principal of NBBJ, a global design firm, and previously as a founding principal of Chan Krieger Sieniewicz, he has provided architectural and urban design services for a wide array of projects, focusing primarily on educational and institutional facilities in complex urban settings. Krieger is active in several committees aimed at enhancing Harvard's campus, as well as various public and community initiatives. He received his Bachelor's degree in Architecture from Cornell University and a Master's degree in City Planning from Harvard. His major publications include works on urban idealism, urban design, and the mapping of Boston, showcasing his extensive expertise in urban studies.
