Biography

Professor Alex Lee is the Howard Friedman ’64 JD Professor of Law at Northwestern Pritzker School of Law and Director of the Center on Law, Business, and Economics. He teaches courses in Securities Regulation, Business Associations, and Administrative Law. His research focuses on the intersection of law and economics, particularly in the areas of securities regulation and administrative law, with a special emphasis on cost-benefit analysis, regulatory design, market structure, and litigation settlement models. His work has been published in leading law reviews and peer-reviewed journals and cited by various U.S. federal agencies. Before joining Northwestern, Professor Lee was a member of the faculty at USC Gould School of Law and has held positions such as Senior Counsel in the Division of Risk, Strategy, and Financial Innovation at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, as well as an Economic Fellow in the SEC’s Office of Economic Analysis. He has also clerked for the Honorable Thomas B. Griffith on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. Professor Lee holds a BA in Mathematics from Harvard College, completed Part III of the Mathematical Tripos at the University of Cambridge, and earned both a JD from Yale Law School and a PhD in Economics from Yale University.
