Dr. Alex Liddle

Biography

Alex Liddle is a Clinical Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Imperial College London, based at the MSK Lab within the Department of Surgery and Cancer. He specializes in joint replacement surgery, focusing on the use of big data and new technologies to enhance patient outcomes. His research particularly emphasizes technological advancements in the prevention and management of infections associated with joint replacements and improving the outcomes of partial knee replacements. After completing his medical studies at Imperial College London, he underwent basic core surgical training in West London before joining the North West Thames Orthopaedic Higher Training Programme in 2010. He conducted his DPhil at the University of Oxford, funded by Arthritis Research UK and the Royal College of Surgeons, under the guidance of esteemed supervisors. Following his doctorate, he served as an NIHR Clinical Lecturer at University College London, where he investigated biofilm formation in infected hip and knee replacements using innovative imaging technologies. His research collaborations have included studies on implant materials and infection rates in knee replacements, utilizing data from the National Joint Registry. Alongside his research, Alex consults for several medical companies and holds leadership roles in surgical specialty committees. He is actively involved in teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as supervising PhD and MPhil students.
