Alex Loftus is a political ecologist with a keen interest in political economy and water issues. His research began in the early 2000s, focusing on struggles over water in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Durban, South Africa, and has since expanded to include the financialization of water infrastructure in London and the global right to water. Since joining King’s College London in 2012, he has spent years supervising and co-supervising 20 PhD students on political ecological questions. Notably, Loftus has authored 'Everyday Environmentalism' and co-authored 'Discovering Political Ecology' and 'Water: Critical Introduction', in addition to editing works that focus on the right to water and Gramsci’s spatial political thought. Currently, he serves as an editor for the journal 'Antipode'. His research encompasses Political Ecology, Infrastructural Politics, Financialization, and Historical-Geographical Materialism, aiming to understand the processes and relationships that lead to profoundly unequal distributions of resources.
