Professor Dr. Alex Mihailidis

Biography

Alex Mihailidis is a Professor at the University of Toronto and the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, where he holds the Barbara G. Stymiest Research Chair in Rehabilitation Technology. With a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, he specializes in the field of intelligent assistive technology systems, focusing on pervasive computing and intelligent systems for health applications. Over the past 15 years, he has published more than 150 journal and conference papers. His research particularly emphasizes the development of intelligent home systems for elder care and wellness, technology for children with autism, and adaptive tools for nurses in clinical applications. He is also recognized as a CIHR New Investigator and has secured significant research grants from various international funding agencies, including the Canadian and American Alzheimer Associations. He has completed collaborations with researchers across Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States, and has served as President of RESNA (Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America).
