Biography

Alexander Penlidis is a Chemical Engineering Professor at the University of Waterloo. He has held a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Engineering of Polymers with Tailor-Made Properties from 2002 to 2016. Penlidis is the founding co-editor and editor for the Polymer Reaction Engineering Journal and has served as Associate Director and Director for the Institute for Polymer Research from 1991 to 2010. His research focuses on polymers with advanced technology applications related to health and biological functions, polymeric sensors, and materials for civil engineering. Ongoing projects include polymerization kinetics and modeling, development of simulator packages, and elemental optimization of reactor operations. Penlidis has over 350 publications and has attracted significant research funding exceeding $18 million. His academic contributions have been recognized with multiple awards, including the Canadian Society of Chemical Engineering Albright and Wilson Americas Award and Fellowship in the Canadian Academy of Engineering. He is involved in supervising numerous graduate students and post-doctoral fellows, contributing significantly to academia and industry.
