Alex Prybutok’s passion for engineering biology and improving engineering education has guided her academic career. She began volunteering at science summer camps in 2006, contributing over 500 hours of service until 2011. Subsequently, she became a Camp Counselor from 2012 to 2019, developing teacher training camps for elementary and middle school students. In 2016, she earned bachelor's degrees in Chemical Engineering and Biochemistry from the University of Texas at Austin, conducting research in antibody engineering and student engineering identity formation. After completing her bachelor's, she joined the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Northwestern University, where she received her Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering in 2022. Her thesis involved developing agent-based models for cell-based therapies for solid tumors within a framework of social justice and diversity in engineering education. At Northwestern, she was involved in numerous teaching-focused activities, was a co-founding member of the ChBE ARDEI Committee, and collaborated on various initiatives to enhance equity in engineering education. Currently, at the University of Washington, she focuses on teaching undergraduate courses, managing laboratories, and engaging in outreach initiatives while continuing her research to support equitable education in engineering.
