Biography

Alex Raskolnikov is the Wilbur H. Friedman Professor of Tax Law at Columbia Law School, where he has been a faculty member since 2004. With a J.D. from Yale Law School and an M.S. from Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology, Raskolnikov's scholarship focuses on political theory and economic analysis concerning taxation, redistribution, and inequality. He has published in prominent law reviews and peer-reviewed journals, including Foreign Affairs and Boston Review. Raskolnikov has frequently testified before Congress on the taxation of financial products and has lectured internationally on tax law. He received the Law School's Willis L.M. Reese Prize for Excellence in Teaching, awarded by graduating JD and LLM classes. Raskolnikov is an affiliated member of Columbia's Center for Law and Economic Studies and serves on several boards, including the Richard Paul Richman Center for Business, Law, and Public Policy, and the Tannenwald Foundation. He is also a member of the American Law and Economics Association and the National Tax Association.
