Biography

Alex Rogers is a Professor of Computer Science at the University of Oxford and a Tutorial Fellow. He is also the Co-Director of the Autonomous Intelligent Machines Systems Centre Doctoral Training (AIMS CDT) and a member of the Cyber Physical Systems research group. His research focuses on applying artificial intelligence and machine learning to physical sensor systems to address real-world challenges, with an emphasis on sustainability. His recent work involves future energy systems, smart grids, citizen science platforms, and environmental monitoring, which typically feature real-world deployment of novel devices, smartphones, and cloud solutions. Currently, he is working on smart building energy management and the development of low-cost conservation technologies. Over his career, he has supervised 27 PhD students and is actively involved in teaching Computer Architecture, as well as supervising undergraduate and MSc projects in sensor systems and physical computing. Alex has a consultancy interest in assisting organizations, particularly start-ups, in deploying AI and machine learning solutions for real-world problems.
