Biography

Alex Summers is a Professor and the Associate Head for Graduate Affairs at the University of British Columbia (UBC), specializing in Computer Science. He completed his MSc in Joint Mathematics and Computer Science at Imperial College London in 2004 and earned his PhD in Computer Science there in 2009. Following his doctoral studies, he conducted postdoctoral research at ETH Zurich from 2009 to 2014, eventually becoming an Oberassistent (Senior Researcher) at the same institution until 2020. Since then, he has been a faculty member at UBC, where he focuses on topics related to programming languages and advanced software engineering. In recognition of his work, he has received several accolades, including the Distinguished Reviewer Award from ACM SIGPLAN and various teaching awards. Alex is actively involved in research and is dedicated to educating the next generation of computer scientists.
