Biography

Alex Tipei is a transnational historian. Her research focuses on networks of political and intellectual elites that connected Southeastern Europe, particularly areas of present-day Romania and Greece, to France in the early nineteenth century. She received her PhD from Indiana University and has held research and teaching positions at the University of Illinois, Princeton University, McGill University, and the University of Bucharest before her current appointment at the Université de Montréal. Tipei is involved in various research projects, including a study on corruption in Bulgaria and Romania and the governance challenges of globalization. She collaborates with international researchers to explore themes of nationalism, identity, and the historical connections between Eastern Europe and Western Europe during the 19th century.
